Yama Buddha

Born in Kathmandu in 1987, Yama Buddha became a defining voice in Nepali hip-hop. His stage name reflected a balance between light and dark, representing the human capacity for both good and bad choices. Throughout his career, he used his music to address social injustice, corruption, and the daily struggles of ordinary people in Nepal. By mixing modern hip-hop beats with traditional Nepali sounds, he created a unique style that resonated deeply with fans both at home and abroad. His 2012 album, *Ekadesh*, highlighted his talent as a songwriter and rapper. He was also known for his experimental collaborations, such as the 2013 track "Saathi," which featured Turkish clarinetist Husnu Senlendirici. Listeners often point to tracks like "Aama," "Yo Prasanga," "Jutta Maa," and "Ktm Grime" as standout moments in his discography. Through songs that explored personal reflection and societal hurdles, he became a primary inspiration for the new generation of Nepali musicians. Yama Buddha passed away in London on January 14, 2017, at the age of 29. Before his rise to fame, he attended school in both Kathmandu and Ithari, eventually completing his +2 education at Edmark Academy. Today, his legacy remains firmly established in the Nepali music scene. His straightforward, honest lyrics continue to motivate listeners to stay focused on their goals and face their challenges head-on.
