About Nepathya

Hailing from Kathmandu, Nepal, Nepathya has spent over three decades cementing their legacy as the pioneers of Nepali folk-rock. Founded in 1990 by Amrit Gurung, Bhim Poon, and Deepak Rana, the group revolutionized the local music scene by masterfully weaving traditional Himalayan folk melodies into the fabric of modern rock. Under the enduring leadership of vocalist Amrit Gurung, the band has evolved into a cultural institution, transforming personal experiences and socio-political commentary into anthems that resonate deeply with the Nepali diaspora and listeners across the globe. The band’s vast catalog features iconic tracks such as "Taal Ko Pani," "Resham," "Bhedako Oon Jasto," and "Rato Ra Chandra Surya," all of which highlight their signature ability to bridge the gap between rural musical heritage and urban energy. Their creative momentum remains steadfast, evidenced by the 2016 album *Aaina Jhyal* and subsequent hits like "Sirma Ribbon." Beyond the studio, Nepathya is a powerhouse of live performance, having taken the stage at world-renowned venues like London’s O2 Academy Brixton and major international festivals including SXSW in Texas and WOMAD in the UK. By consistently championing the indigenous sounds of the sarangi and traditional folk motifs, Nepathya continues to serve as a vital ambassador for Nepali culture on the world stage.
